A very special year for Women of the Year! The 40th anniversary of the Women of the Year Luncheon & Awards marked four decades of celebrating the achievements of exceptional women, bringing together almost 600 guests at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on Friday 1st April 2022.
After two years away due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was particularly meaningful to come together again to recognise women who have made an outstanding difference to their businesses, industries and communities.
The 2022 awards celebrated three remarkable winners: Suzanne Linton, named Business Woman of the Year; Carol Ann Shanahan OBE, awarded Community Heroine of the Year; and the Women of the NHS, who received the prestigious Woman of Achievement award.
The ceremony also paid a special tribute to the dedication, compassion and commitment of women working across the NHS, recognising the extraordinary efforts of those who continued to care for and support others throughout the pandemic.
With keynote speaker and Paralympian Lucy Shuker joining the celebrations, the 40th anniversary was a wonderful reminder of what Women of the Year has stood for since 1982: recognising achievement, celebrating women and inspiring the next generation.
Here’s to 40 years of extraordinary women and the stories that deserve to be celebrated!
Suzanne Linton, CEO of Warwickshire-based digital agency Freestyle, was named Business Woman of the Year.
Having helped build the business into an established digital consultancy employing 30 people, Suzanne impressed the judges with her leadership, commitment to employee wellbeing and focus on creating a positive working culture.
Her approach puts trust, openness and work-life balance at the heart of the business, making her a fantastic example of modern female leadership.
Carol Ann Shanahan OBE was recognised for her extraordinary work supporting families and communities across Stoke-on-Trent during the Covid-19 pandemic with the Community Heroine of the Year award.
As Founder of the Hubb Foundation and Chair of Port Vale Football Club, Carol helped transform the football club into a thriving community hub, delivering more than 350,000 meals and over 6,500 activity packs to children and families in need.
Her determination, generosity and ability to bring people together made an incredible difference to thousands of local people.
The prestigious Woman of Achievement award was presented to the Women of the NHS, recognising their unwavering dedication, compassion and commitment to caring for others.
Representatives included nurses, midwives, consultants and surgeons from Liverpool Women’s Hospital and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, alongside NHS professionals working across cancer treatment, physiotherapy, mental health and children’s services.
The award was a heartfelt tribute to the thousands of women across the NHS who continued to provide life-saving care and support through some of the most challenging circumstances.
